Thank you for taking the time to have a look at my blog. My name is Nicky and I am originally from the Netherlands. Since I was young, I have always had the urge to travel to other countries, learn other languages and get to know other cultures. My parents however, decided otherwise and so I have spent most of my childhood traveling through the Netherlands and exploring every little corner of it. When I was finally old enough to travel by myself, I couldn't wait to explore all the beautiful countries and cities in Europe. But once I got the hang of that, I wanted more and more. In 2019, I decided to do my internship for my studies International Business in Guatemala and there I fell in love; with the country and the people. So I didn't want to go back and decided to explore Guatemala as a local instead.
Over the last few years I have made many trips and a lot of people have asked me about the places I have been to. This is why I decided to share my trips with the rest of the world. Within this blog you will find my experiences with countries and places and hotel and restaurant recommendations. You will also see off the grid places that you will not find easily in a tour-guide book. How do I find these places you may wonder? Talking to locals and social media! Lots of friend in Guatemala have led me to amazing places that I would never have experienced if I traveled with only a tour book. There are still many places and activities on my bucket list that I want to experience, so if you want to know more about these, follow me on Instagram for the latest updates.
Since I am still a student, I try to travel cheap and try to find affordable but special places. Hostels are my go-to places, as they will have opportunities to share sleeping spaces, most often have a kitchen to make your own food, and most importantly, allow you to mingle among other travellers and locals. You will find a lot of tips about affordable hostels and affordable restaurants, but trust me, they are all worth it to visit and try.
I hope that you will be able to get some inspiration for your next trip on this blog and if you have any additional questions about the places I have been to, feel free to contact me!
